How Much Does a Small Business Website Cost?

The honest answer is "it depends," so here is what it depends on, what we charge, and the ongoing costs that catch people off guard.

The short answer

Our prices are listed on our homepage, so you can use them as a reference point:

  • $900 one-time for a custom website of up to 5 pages
  • $1,980 one-time for a website plus local SEO setup (Google Business Profile, directory listings, on-page SEO)
  • $4,050 one-time for branding, website, online store, hosting and support
  • $129 a month with $0 down for a website with hosting and edits included, or $399 a month with local SEO management added

Other designers charge more or less. What matters is knowing what you are getting for the price, which is what the rest of this page is about.

What drives the price

  • Number of pages. A one-page site and a 20-page site with a page for every service are different projects.
  • Who writes the words. If you send finished text and photos, it goes faster. If the designer writes it, that is real work.
  • Selling online. An online store needs products, payments, shipping and taxes set up.
  • Branding. A logo, colors and fonts designed from scratch add to the price.
  • Getting found. A site Google can read is the start. Setting up your Google Business Profile, directory listings and location pages is separate work.

Your three main options

  • Do it yourself with a website builder. The cheapest way to start, and fine for some businesses. You do the design, writing and upkeep yourself, and many builder sites load slowly on phones.
  • A local designer or small studio. A custom site from one person or a small team. You usually talk to the person doing the work.
  • An agency. More people and more services under one roof, usually at a higher price and often with a monthly retainer.

Ongoing costs people forget

  • Domain name. Your web address renews every year.
  • Hosting. The server your site lives on. Ours starts at $40 a month with updates, backups and monitoring.
  • Business email. An address at your own domain. We set it up through Google Workspace, which Google bills from $7 per user per month.
  • Changes. New photos, prices or services. Ask how edits are handled and what they cost before you sign.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Do I own the website, and can I move it somewhere else later?
  • What is included in the price, and what costs extra?
  • Who writes the text, and who provides the photos?
  • How fast does the site load on a phone? Can you show me a PageSpeed Insights score for a site you built?
  • Will you set up Google Search Console and my Google Business Profile?
  • What happens when someone fills out the contact form? Where does it go, and what if that fails?
  • What does it cost each month after launch, and can I cancel?

Any designer should be able to answer all of these in plain English. Our answers are in the FAQ on our homepage.
